The Tanglin Club was founded in 1865 as a social club for British residents. This view captures the original club house with its Stevens Road entrance which was demolished to make way for the present four-storey club building built on the old site in 1981. This pseudo Chinese/Spanish confection sadly lacks the architectural qualities of its predecessor. As Peter Keyes, a former club member and architect laments: The earlier buildings of the Tanglin Club on the site were beautiful examples of the style of architecture of former days, when life had greater elegance, and graciousness was a virtue.
