Description:
Completed in 1840, this is Singapore's oldest Chinese, and most important Hokkien temple. It is built on the site of a shrine on the shore of Telok Ayer Bay, close to where the junks from China landed. Here the newly arrived immigrants would give thanks for their safe passage. The temple's raised threshold is a reminder of pre-reclammation days when the temple fronted onto the bay and was frequently subject to flooding.

All our reproduction photographs are double matted (unless otherwise stated) and ready for framing.
